4th of July in Washington, D.C.

July 4, 2010 We had a great 4th of July with family and friends and the best spot to view the fireworks. There were so many boats anchored in the river I was happy we did not have to move the boat for the fireworks show. The fish market next door provided music all day! I don't think the night would have ended, but the metro stopped running at midnight and our local guests had to head for home.

This is the sunset in Yorktown, the most beautiful one I've ever seen.

The sky was vibrant reds and oranges.

June 26, 2010 We crossed the Chesapeake today and it was a little uncomfortable with 3 ft. seas for about 40 minutes, until we changed heading. We are now anchored at Jutland Creek just inside the mouth of the Potomac. This is the same anchorage we used last November on our trip to Norfolk. Hope the anchor holds. For us newbies, there is always a little anxiety.

We sure had a great time visiting Yorktown and Williamsburg. We saw the most beautiful sunset our first night in Yorktown. Last night there was a beach concert, which we enjoyed from the fly bridge.

Myrtle Beach to Washington DC

Three weeks off - it's almost retirement. We started in Myrtle Beach on June 15, 2010 but didn't get very far. We lost more bolts from the differential, which made it very difficult, actually impossible, to go forward. We were able to tie off on a private dock's piling and waited patiently for our first tow, which took us to Anchor Marina just east of the Little River Swing Bridge. As luck would have it, if you call this lucky, we enjoyed raw oysters and the Tuesday night special at Captain Poo's of $.35 tacos.

After putting on locking screws, we headed on our way the next day.

One of our stops was in Moorehead City, NC during the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament. We saw the weighing in of the 3rd place finisher. The 1st place, 883 lb. blue malin, had been caught on the 2nd day of the tournament but was subsequently disqualified for the failure of one of the crew to have a fishing license.

Heading South

November 4, 2009 Leaving Baltimore

Vegas Girl has been washed and waxed and, thankfully, not by me. We are sitting in the marina waiting for the weather to allow us to leave as we are not willing to brave seas higher than a foot. This is a great excuse for not being back to work on the date expected, but desert dwellers may not understand it!

Life in Baltimore

June 30, 2009: We made it to our destination, Baltimore, with great weather and calm waters and our security blanket by the name of Captain Jim. What a surprise Baltimore was for us. We are moored (I still don't know what the correct term is.) at a new marina in the inner harbor. This area has been revitalized with new condominiums, water taxis that transverse the harbor sites, many many restaurants, and museums. We were able to spend time with Greg and Leigh Ann and Greg's parents, Bela and Kathy.
